I’m Sanjeev Kumar, a photographer and visual artist from Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh. My practice moves between documentary photography, visual storytelling, and design, with a particular interest in everyday life, cultural traditions, labour, memory, and the relationship between people and their surroundings.

Growing up in Bhadohi, a region deeply connected to the carpet industry, shaped the way I look at people, places, and material culture. The landscape of carpet production, the people who work within it, and the traditions passed through generations have become an important part of my visual practice. I’m interested in looking closely at these environments and understanding the stories that exist within them.

Photography for me is a way of paying attention. I use it to observe, document, and understand the world around me. Much of my work develops slowly through spending time with a place or community, allowing images to emerge through familiarity, observation, and personal experience.

I studied Applied Art at the College of Art, New Delhi, where I completed my BFA from 2016–2020. I later completed my MVA in Applied Art from the College of Art and Craft, Lucknow University, from 2020–2022.

Alongside my independent practice, I work across photography, graphic design, and visual communication. I also teach photography as a visiting faculty.

My work continues to explore the spaces between personal experience and documentary observation, looking at how ordinary places, people, and everyday moments can hold larger stories.
